Deputy Fire Marshal’s responded to the 500 block of S. Prospect to investigate a vehicle fire. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

The Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to investigate a structure fire at 1013 SW 10 on 1/11/15. The building has been empty for some time and appears to have been used by homeless as shelter. The cause of the fire has been determined and Deputies are seeking witnesses that may help identify all parties in the building before the fire occurred.

Deputy Fire Marshal’s responded to a residential structure fire on 11/7/14. They discovered 2 points of origin where fire had started. Investigators determined that the fire was set intentionally. Leads are currently being investigated.

On 11-4-14 Deputy Fire Marshal’s and APD Special Crimes Unit responded to a residential structure fire. One victim was located inside and was declared deceased at the scene. The residence was abandoned at the time and posted “Unsafe to Occupy.” The fire was determined to be accidental, caused by a warming fire set by the deceased victim.
Deputy Fire Marshal’s responded to the scene of a residential fire on 10-30-14. The fire was determined to have been intentionally set. Investigators are currently tracking down several leads.

Deputy Fire Marshal’s responded to a residential fire scene on 10-28-14. The origin of the fire was determined to be the wall-unit heater. The area ignited when the resident turned on the gas supply and attempted to light the pilot. It was discovered that the gas supply hose was missing. This was removed during the summer for a repair, but never replaced.

Deputy Fire Marshal’s investigated a residential fire scene on 10-19-14. The occupant attempted to hide from Deputies in a vehicle down the street. She was located and confessed to starting the fire. She was arrested for Reckless Arson.
UPDATE: The suspect in this case, Vashti McCormick, was sentenced to 15 months jail time and a $500 fine for Reckless Arson
On 9/10/14 in the early morning hours Deputy Fire Marshal’s responded to a residential structure fire. Items collected at the scene indicate a Molotov Cocktail may have been the cause of the fire.

One building – a five story residential/commercial structure – still under construction was fully involved with fire on July 7, 2014. The Fire Marshal’s Office spent 2 days investigating the scene and interviewing witnesses. On July 9, 2014, this office has determined the fire to be accidental. The cause of the fire is from a cutting operation with a failed attempt to extinguish fire.
There were no reported injuries from this incident.
A fire was intentionally started at this location on June 2, 3014. Deputy Fire Marshal’s are currently investigating the incident. No suspects are in custody at this time.
